Mission

Mithras is developing an experimental autonomous system to supply resource targets to mining, geothermal, and other subsurface industries within the next 5 years. This means $12 trillion of minerals, 700 million tons of copper concentrate, enough H2 to replace 5.4 trillion cubic meters of natural gas. In other words, we want to deliver on the promise of electrification, kill an oil & gas company, and build a platform that can assist in moonshot interventions to stabilize climate systems.

While this role focuses on aerospace, it has the opportunity to expand into various domains of mechanical engineering, autonomous swarms, and complex mission planning that reacts to new sensors for the earth's subsurface. Resource mapping, estimation, and targeting is just our starting point in going after trillion dollar industries.

Responsibilities

• Developing a novel aircraft, around sensing technologies developing in parallel
• Driving an iterative loop, progressively derisking new approaches to old ideas
• Focusing development towards clear mission milestones
• CAD & fabrication, and delegating both, within a small team to drive the fastest progress
• Trade studies across power trains, fuels, materials, etc.
• Directing real world tests vs. simulations (structural, electromagnetic, and thermal) to drive fast feedback
• Foresight into scale up manufacturing challenges to 100+ aircraft

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or aerospace engineering or equivalent
• 5+ years experience in aero/mechanical design and analysis
• Demonstrated history seeing conceptual design through to development, testing, and deployment
• Demonstrated history of managing cross-functional teams and vendor relationships
• Demonstrated balancing rigour and urgency during development

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Aerospace design, especially for low-speed, low-altitude, and high-endurance designs
• Obsession for pushing limits, leap frogging incumbents, and doing it with constrained resources
• Electrical engineering familiarity, for engaging across disciplines
• Experience with BVLOS requirements and reliability

Logistics & Applying

Mithras is located on the border of San Francisco and Brisbane, California. Work is 100% on site.

Pay range: $140,000.00 - $200,000.00 per year, to be determined on a case-by-case basis based on job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
