Mission

Mithras is developing an experimental autonomous system to supply resource targets to mining, geothermal, and other subsurface industries within the next 5 years. This means $12 trillion of minerals, 700 million tons of copper concentrate, enough H2 to replace 5.4 trillion cubic meters of natural gas. In other words, we want to deliver on the promise of electrification, kill an oil & gas company, and build a platform that can assist in moonshot interventions to stabilize climate systems.

The Experimental Aerospace Engineer will develop the core autonomous system to guide trillion dollar industries.

Responsibilities

• Generating & evaluating novel aircraft and deployment systems
• Delivering on first-class geophysical sensing requirements, despite their challenge
• Trade studies on sub-systems, ranging from active controls, power trains, fuels, materials, etc.
• Structural, electromagnetic, and thermal modeling of aircraft systems against sensor tolerances
• Iterating on a mathematical foundation for controls, with foresight into aircraft scaling
• Developing coordinated swarm flying
• Raising ambitions to build a novel aircraft system that is needed for climate interventions by 2028

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or aerospace engineering or equivalent
• 5+ years experience in aero/mechanical design and analysis
• Demonstrated history traversing conceptual design to deployment
• Demonstrated history of effectively managing design projects from conception to implementation, including working with cross-functional teams and managing vendor relationships
• Demonstrated ability to intuitively or analytically arrive at self-evidently correct designs
• Obsession for treating an aircraft as a scientific instrument, and making one high-endurance

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Intuition on high-endurance flight strategies and trade-offs
• Familiarity with electrochemical, combustion, and other power train designs
• Part 107 Licensed
• Ability to work in fast-paced, demanding iterative design and manufacturing environments

Logistics & Applying

Mithras is based in San Fransisco, California. Work is 100% on site, but we can accomdate ramping up.

Pay range: $160,000.00 - $200,000.00 per year, to be determined on a case-by-case basis based on job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
